Trouni Tiet
Team Lead
Self-introduction
My name is Trouni Tiet, and I currently serve as the Team Lead for 3D InfraLoop at DataLabs. I studied engineering at the Ecole Centrale Paris, then spent the first half of my career in business development and management for startups. Later, I transitioned into software development, building a career at the intersection of business, product management, and engineering. This background allows me to approach technical challenges from multiple perspectives, always with a strong focus on both user needs and business impact.
Why did you join DataLabs?
I was looking for a new challenge that would push me to grow, and I found it in DataLabs. The idea of modernizing the construction industry in Japan, an industry that has traditionally been slow to adopt digital transformation, struck me as both an exciting and impactful challenge.
I chose DataLabs because of its small, fast-moving team. The flat structure and flexible working style appealed to me, as I wanted to work in an environment where good ideas could be tested and implemented quickly. I also valued the supportive working conditions that make it easy to focus on building great products.
Naturally, I had some initial concerns, especially since I had no prior experience in the construction industry. But thanks to the knowledgeable and supportive team, and the willingness of everyone to share their expertise, the transition was smooth.
Main role in DataLabs
I am involved in the development of the 3D InfraLoop applications, including Hatsuly and Markly. These tools bring greater efficiency and accuracy to maintenance workflows in construction. Day to day, I work closely with other engineers to turn ideas into reality, always balancing technical robustness with user-friendliness.
My role also includes keeping the wider company updated on our progress and ensuring that the 3D InfraLoop development team is focused on the right priorities.
The fun and challenging aspects of work in DataLabs
One of the most rewarding challenges is translating traditional, manual workflows into modern digital tools. In construction, clear standards are not always available, so we often need to define the best approach ourselves. Customer feedback plays a critical role in shaping our direction.
It’s deeply satisfying when we hear that our tools save clients hours of repetitive work. At the same time, we know we don’t always get things right on the first try. Continuous improvement is part of our culture, and this cycle of testing, learning, and refining helps us grow technically as engineers.
Another strong motivator is seeing the enthusiasm of our business team. Their excitement when introducing new features, and their determination to ensure customer success, pushes us to raise the bar on the engineering side as well.
Work Style and Culture in DataLabs
The team atmosphere is one of the best parts of working here. Everyone is capable and independent, yet always ready to step in and support one another. This balance makes collaboration smooth and enjoyable.
Recently, we’ve been exploring AI workflows to streamline our processes, always looking for ways to work more efficiently and deliver more value. Experimentation and sharing results with other members is definitely an interesting part of the culture and a great way to grow personally.
Daily Schedule / Introduction of Our Work Style
Most of my work is done remotely, which provides flexibility and focus. At the same time, we maintain connection through regular in-person gatherings.
Each morning begins with an online stand-up meeting to synchronize with my team, share updates, and resolve blockers quickly. The rest of the day is a balance of planning, design, implementation, review, and data/feedback analysis, ensuring that we keep moving forward while staying aligned.
Outlook for the Future
Looking ahead, I am excited to see how DataLabs can redefine the way construction and maintenance are carried out in Japan and beyond. Personally, I aim to continue deepening my expertise as both an engineer and a manager, while also supporting my team to grow. My focus is on building products that make a tangible impact on the industry and setting a strong foundation for long-term innovation.
